National Roadshow
The National Roadshow is an important element of Scottish Youth Theatre's annual programme of activities. For six weeks in the autumn, the National Roadshow visits a wide variety of groups all across Scotland. Our team of tutors deliver a workshop to 12-21 years followed by a chat about how to get involved in youth theatre at a local and national level to secondary schools, after school care clubs, amateur dramatic clubs, support for learning units, community groups, youth theatres and many more.
Roadshow 2010 workshop options are as follows:
- Theatre Games and Improvisation (2hrs)
Using fast paced games & exercises, the group can learn basic drama skills and techniques within a fun, relaxed and creative environment. Focus is on building groupwork skills and developing confidence.
- The Power of the Ensemble (2hrs)
Developing vital groupwork skills as an ensemble performer the young people will devise their own work incorporating movement and voice. This is a chance to experience the exciting potential for performing as an ensemble.
- Page to Stage (2hrs)
Using theatrical exercises and techniques the participants will creatively explore the house style of taking the written word to live performance. This is a unique opportunity to creatively explore specially commissioned Scottish Youth Theatre text.
1. Dying for it : Follows a group of friends as they explore their relationships , life choices and sexuality in an accessible conversational way. Fast paced, often funny but with a serious message.
2. Jerusalem, The Song of Deeds : Epic retelling of the first crusade through the eyes of a young boy and girl.
3. When a Star Falls : On a Saturday night, on top of a hill, young people come face to face with some of the key issues of identity and nationality, learning more about themselves and each other than they could possibly have expected.

- Practical Approach to Shakespeare (2hrs)
Using tried and tested techniques the group will break down the barriers of Shakespeare’s language by focusing on physicality and voice. The workshop will develop confidence in using the language gaining a fuller understanding of the language used and character motivations.
- Special Educational Needs (length is dependant on needs of the group)
Within the headline SEN we offer all of the options listed above, catering to individual group skill levels, abilities and needs. If this tailor-madeworkshop is of interest to you and your group then please let us know.
All Roadshow workshops are offered at the nominal rate of £50 per workshop. No additional charges will be made.
Roadshow 2010 Geographical breakdown
The Roadshow will visit every LEA over a designated 2 week period. Please check with the schedule below for details of when the team will be in your area.
Area 1 From Monday 27th September – Friday 8th October:
East Lothian, Midlothian, West Lothian, Edinburgh, Fife, Stirling, Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway.
Area 2 From Monday 18th October – Friday 29th October:
Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire (not 18th), North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire (not 18th), East Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire (not 18th or 19th), North Ayrshire, East Ayrshire (not 18th – 20th) and Inverclyde.
Area 3 From Monday 1st November – Friday 12th November:
Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll & Bute, Highlands, Moray, Dundee and Perth & Kinross.
Area 4 From Monday 27th September – Friday 12th November:
The Islands (Shetland, Orkney and Western Isles)
There will be no workshops offered from Monday 11th – Friday 15th October
All Roadshow workshops are offered at the nominal rate of £50 per workshop. No additional charges will be made.
